The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says firefighters will be conducting “live fire” training exercises this month in areas near Rancho Murieta. The exercises are part of the Cal Fire Vegetation Management Plan, an agreement Cal Fire has entered into with the neighboring Van Vleck ranch, the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, and the Prairie City OHV State Park, located on White Rock Road in Rancho Cordova.
According to Cal Fire, the vegetation management plan provides locations for training firefighting personnel while helping to control Medusahead, an invasive weed species that can be controlled through properly timed burning before its seeds mature.
