Wind, heat increase fire danger

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District officials are asking residents to take extra care this weekend as higher temperatures, winds and a decrease in humidity create prime conditions for fire. Sac Metro is adding fire companies in Fair Oaks and Rancho Cordova. Cal Fire has additional firefighters on duty and is staffing more fire engines. Sac Metro puts out small grass fire

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a grass fire reported along Jackson Road near Rancho Murieta's South Gate around noon Monday and found "a very small roadside fire," according to Sac Metro Assistant Chief Brian Rice.  Firefighters finished putting out the smoldering fire and Cal Fire Department is investigating the cause, which appears to be accidental and electrical in nature, he said.    Read more » about Sac Metro puts out small grass fire

Small fire at North Gate put out quickly

Gate Officer Karen Hessler keeps traffic moving Saturday morning at the North Gate following Friday night's small fire. The device that caught fire had been in the cabinet at lower right. A similar device can be seen there still.

Murieta South home damaged by fire

Lightning sparks two small fires

The thunderstorms that rolled through the area Wednesday evening caused two lightning strikes along Stonehouse Road.  One strike killed a cow and started a small grass fire on Stonehouse near Latrobe roads, according to witnesses.  Lightning also struck a gate in the same area, sparking a small fire.  Fire Stations 58 and 59 and Cal Fire were on the scene. Overnight fire damages home on Guadalupe Drive

No one was injured in a two-alarm fire overnight at 15054 Guadalupe Drive. Officials said the home's occupant escaped when the blaze broke out in the attached garage early Sunday. Unattended candle blamed for fire at Granlees estate

[Updated Sept. 21] Fire Thursday afternoon heavily damaged a 60-year-old home on the old Granlees estate, between the north banks of the Cosumnes River and the North Course's third fairway.
